Liars have been around for a long time now and always produce an interesting album every few years. Having burst out of New York after forming in 2000, they relocated to Berlin in 2003-4 and since then have taken in New Jersey and are now based in Los Angeles where recent album WIXIW (pronounced wish you apparently) was recorded…in a cabin in the woods of course, or maybe they just said that to take the piss out of all those sensitive types isolating themselves in the hope that it might make their music listenable (cough, Bon Iver, cough).
WIXIW has received more than flattering reviews and rightly so. These guys have consistently remained immune to any criticism of any kind by producing completely different records each time they decide to grace the planet us mere mortals live on. When I heard that they’d made a mostly electronic sounding album in WIXIW I can’t say I was surprised because it’s what Liars do best, surprises. Anyway, it’s the grand surroundings of the Festsaal Kreuzberg for these boys again, a far cry from the sweaty and packed Golden Gate in August 2004 when I think they would have peeled some paint off the walls if there was any paint on those walls it was so intense. So, an easygoing Tuesday night in store for you now that they’ve gone all Animal Collective-y and indietronic-y.
